WVC Names Top CE Speakers From 2014 Conference

Repeat winner Karyn Gavzer and other speakers are honored for their work at Western Veterinary Conference.

Western Veterinary Conference attendees who sat through more than 1,000 hours of educational programming in February got their chance to speak this week with the announcement of their choices of the 2014 Continuing Educators of the Year.

Western Veterinary Conference attendees who sat through more than 1,000 hours of educational programming in February got their chance to speak this week with the announcement of their choices of the 2014 Continuing Educators of the Year.

On the list was Karyn Gavzer, MBA, CVPM, who was honored for the second consecutive year for her performance on practice management topics. Gavzer, a consultant who owns K&G Marketing & Training Inc. in Springboro, Ohio, is the former director of marketing for the American Veterinary Medical Association and is among fewer than 150 Certified Veterinary Hospital Managers (CVPM) in North America.

The other honorees were:

Avian and Exotics: Tammy Miller Michau, DVM, MS, MSpVM, Dipl. ACVO. She practices at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Florida and is a former assistant professor of ophthalmology at North Carolina State University.

Equine: David G. Pugh, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACT, Dipl. ACVN. An Alabama-based consultant, speaker and author, he formerly taught at the University of Georgia and at Auburn University.

Food Animal: Dan Posey, DVM, Dipl. ABVP. He is a clinical assistant professor in the department of large animal clinical sciences at Texas A&M University.

Small Animal: Gary D. Norsworthy, DVM, Dipl. ABVP (Feline). He practices at Alamo Feline Health Center in San Antonio and is the editor and primary author of six feline textbooks.

Veterinary Technician: Andrea Steele, MSc, RVT, VTS (Emergency & Critical Care). A frequent lecturer, she has worked for over 15 years as an ICU technician at the Ontario Veterinary College Teaching Hospital in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Amy Mason, DVM, was named the inaugural Moderator of the Year. She practices at Guffey Veterinary Clinic & Healing Arts Center in Guffey, Colo., and has moderated at Western Veterinary Conference for nearly 20 years.

The 86th annual conference was held Feb. 16 to 20 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. More than 6,000 veterinarians were among the 14,800 attendees.
