Signs of Hope
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since the new millennium dawned. Remember all the Y2K-bug fears?
2010 begins with different fears held over from 2009, fears spawned by the great recession. Some economic seers have declared the recession over. I want that to be true, but it doesn’t feel over.
But there are positive signs. One we’ve noticed among veterinarians we speak with is a new sense of optimism, of hope that maybe the worst finally is behind us.
At the American Association of Equine Practitioners conference in Las Vegas in December, the trade show hall seemed very busy. A number of equipment manufacturers said sales picked up toward the end of the year. Some said new clients who hunkered down for much of the year realized toward the end that they had had a better year than expected.
Indeed, as our report on Page 28 of the magazine details, while the days of 100 percent financing for veterinarians may be over, loans are available for qualified applicants.
Time will tell whether cautious optimism is to be rewarded. In the meantime, we at Veterinary Practice News wish you a happy, hopeful and prosperous new year.
