Going Digital

Veterinary Practice News has gone digital. If you’re among those who prefer not to receive the “dead tree” version of the magazine—I’ve heard the print edition called that—you can sign up for our new digital edition.

For details on what the digital edition has to offer, see the ad on Page 22. To switch your subscription, go to VeterinaryPracticeNews.com and click on the “Digital Edition” box on the upper right side of the page. Then follow the instructions.

Prefer the print version? No worries. You can keep receiving it. It is not being discontinued.

Anyone who has worked in publications knows the perils of finding appropriate art to accompany a story. Sometimes what you think is the perfect shot turns out to be highly imperfect.

In the eight years I’ve worked on Veterinary Practice News, alert readers have taught us a lot about proper veterinary procedures and protocols. We’ve heard about it when we’ve run photos showing ungloved hands performing procedures, improper technician positioning in attending to an anesthetized horse, even a portable ultrasound unit being used on a clinic floor.

In our August story “Treat Radiation With Respect, Not Anxiety,” by Dr. Matt Wright, Dipl. ACVR, a small photo shows two attendants positioning a cat under an X-ray machine. Clearly they were not wearing proper radiation safety equipment.

To thank Dr. Kenton Flaig of Portville, N.Y., for pointing out the error, and by way of apology to Dr. Wright for not having had him check the photo, we’re sending each a Veterinary Practice News commuter mug. Thanks for keeping us on the right track.

We always love to hear from readers. Feel free to weigh in with your own opinions. You can e-mail me at the address below.
