Teva Dog Supplement Targets New Segment

Teva Animal Health of St. Joseph, Mo., launched a chewable tablet supplement called Alenza, designed to address a new segment the company referred to as “whole body comfort,” Teva reported yesterday.
Teva's new supplement, Alenza, is designed to address moderate discomfort in dogs. | The supplement contains a bioflavonoid formulation derived from antioxidants and the plants Scutellaria baicalensis and Acacia catechu. It is designed to support normal metabolic processes in a dog’s body for ongoing comfort, peak condition and quality of life and can be used for supplemental support for normal daily activities, in aging pets, for supporting immune function and joint flexibility and for helping recovery after surgery, injury or during rehabilitation, Teva reported.
While treatment is available for mild discomfort, Alenza is the first supplement to address moderate discomfort, Teva reported.
“That is the missing gap we have addressed with the ‘Whole Body Comfort’ category by using ingredients that can be safely used on an ongoing basis,” said Hal Sinclair, of Teva Animal Health’s Veterinary Commercial Services.
Whole body comfort can be achieved by modulating multiple pathways of inflammation and managing the negative effects of free radicals, cytokines and arachidonic acid, Teva reported.
The supplement does not require an initial loading dose and is available in dose-specific formulations for small and medium to large dogs.
