Posted: Feb. 5, 2014, 6:05 p.m. EST

ImageWorks Corp. has spun off its veterinary division, which makes digital dental imaging equipment, to Blackstone Holdings LLC.

Blackstone, a subsidiary of the New York private equity firm The Blackstone Group, announced the sale Tuesday but did not disclose the purchase price.

ImageWorks, formerly known as AFP Imaging Corp., introduced digital dental imaging to the animal health industry in 2004, the company stated. The Elmsford, N.Y., manufacturer will continue to produce imaging and processing equipment for the human medical and dental industries.

The newly formed company, ImageWorks Veterinary, will focus on the animal health imaging market. All operations and manufacturing have been moved to Englewood, Colo.

Among ImageWorks Veterinary’s U.S.-made products are EVA Vet digital dental sensors, Image-Vet 4G and Image-Vet DC intraoral X-ray systems, and the NewTom 5G VET 3-D imaging system.

"We are very excited about this acquisition because it comes with 30-plus years of experience in imaging solutions and the ability to roll out groundbreaking new technology,” said David Miller, vice president of business development at ImageWorks Veterinary. "Our goal is to solidify our position of leadership in the veterinary dental imaging market.”
