To Dr. Lou Anne Epperley:
Thank you for the touching article about the pet pig you lost under anesthesia. Every conscientious veterinarian who has ever been in practice for any length of time has a similar story(ies) about the incapacitating "loss of nerve" that temporarily follows such an event. Thank you for your candor and courage in publishing your story.
On a more practical note, would you be so kind as to please specify the anesthetic regimen you do use to castrate pet pigs: what pre-anesthetic and/or induction drugs do you use and what dosage, do you intubate, do you supplement oxygen with a face mask, and what steps do you take if a pig's breathing stops or becomes irregular? And exactly what surgical technique do you use in your castrations and do you handle the pig with the suspected inguinal hernia any differently? Your experience in dealing with such a large number of pet pigs qualifies you as something of an expert and I would greatly appreciate knowing more about your protocols.
Thanks for your time and the great article.

Sincerely,
George Bates, DVM

May 2013 issue, Page 20: re heartworm infection in cats: "...feral cats would have a 7 per cent rate. Therefore 7 out of 10 cats ...could have heartworm." Excuse me, is this "new math"??? Seven out of 10 is 70 per cent, not seven. Where did you get your basic math education? Seven per cent is 7 out of 100, not out of 10.

To whom it may concern,
I'm with The Spinal Decompression and Chiropractic Center in Denton off of Lillian Miller pkwy and I noticed that we have an ad with information listed on your website. The hours stated in that ad are now incorrect as we have changed them. The new hours are now as follows: Mon:8am-12:30pm,2pm-6pm, Tues-Fri:8am-6pm, and Sat:8am-12:30pm. If that could great updated that would be greatly appreciated! :)
Thank you,
Teresa

I would like to permission to use some of the images from "What They Ate" for a professional educational presentation on Veterinary Imaging. I would certainly give credit during the presentation. Please let me know how to proceed.
Thank you
