Referring to Dr Crowe's comment about just who and who is not a surgeon:
As a practicing veterianrian who has done cutting edge medicine and surgery for almost 40 years I resent the comment that I am not able to call myself a surgeon. I have been doing quality srugical proceedures since before a majority of the boarded surgeons were even born.

If it is the quality of care for our patients that is most important as opposed to featherbedding for "Boarded Surgeons", are boarded surgeon's ethically required to refer cases to general practioners that they know are more experienced and qualified to do specific proceedures?

Case in point: We did endoscopy, CT, Colordopler US, etc before our local speciality hospitals. I never revieved a referal from them. They simply offered less quality care as opposed to using our services. I eagerly await your response.

respectfully submitted,

According to the American Board of Veterinary Specialists which is part of the AVMA you cannot be called a "surgeon" unless you are board certified. I would think that all professionals who are involved in veterinary medicine would honor this decision by the AVMA. You might change this add or you might have a serious issue with the AVMA and the American College of Vetyerinary Surgeons
