Name at least five ways to correct hypotension in a cat or a dog under anesthesia.

Answers:

  1. Re-measure the blood pressure to rule out a technical error.
  2. Decrease the percentage of anesthetic gas.
  3. Treat the cause of hypotension (hemorrhage).
  4. Try a bolus of IV fluids.
  5. Give a colloid (e.g. hetastarch).
  6. Give an inotropic medication (dopamine, dobutamine).
  7. Give an anticholinergic (atropine, glycopyrrolate).
