Photo courtesy Royal Canin via PR Newswire A renewed multi-year partnership between Royal Canin and the University of Tennessee Veterinary Obesity Center (UTVOC) aims to bolster clinical care, research, and education focused on obesity in cats and dogs. The collaboration centers on expanding evidence-based approaches to obesity prevention and treatment. Through the UTVOC, client-owned pets receive subsidized weight management care, while researchers collect data to better understand outcomes and refine treatment strategies. Findings from enrolled animals have shown many achieve clinically meaningful weight loss, helping inform best practices in veterinary medicine. A key component of the partnership is professional education. The center develops continuing education programs, peer-reviewed research, and training resources to help veterinarians more effectively manage overweight patients. Insights gained through clinical cases are also integrated into veterinary teaching, supporting both students and practicing clinicians. “Pet obesity is an epidemic in our pet population,” says Todd East, DVM, director of veterinary affairs, Royal Canin North America. “We are proud to continue partnering with UTVOC to provide precise nutrition for overweight animals in need and to educate both pet owners and veterinarians. Together our goal is to make a meaningful impact to combat pet obesity.”
