Chronic conditions remain the leading causes of veterinary visits, data show

A recent analysis of more than 3.3 million pet insurance claims from 2025 provides a broad perspective on the conditions most commonly seen in general veterinary practice.

An analysis of more than 3.3 million pet insurance claims submitted in 2025 of more than one million insured dogs and cats found chronic diseases accounted for many of the most common veterinary claims. The review was conducted by Nationwide.

Among dogs, skin allergies reportedly ranked as the most common claim for the 15th consecutive year, and six of the top 10 canine conditions were chronic. Seizures appeared in the top 10 for the first time.
