Awareness campaign highlights risks of feline obesity

IAMS has launched a national awareness campaign highlighting the prevalence of overweight cats in the United States. Current estimates show that 60 percent of U.S. cats are overweight, yet only 28 percent of owners recognize the issue. Excess weight increases the risk of multiple health problems and can shorten a cat's lifespan.

IAMS is also sharing online content that follows real cats on their weight-loss journeys, along with general guidance on maintaining a healthy body condition.

Sixty percent of U.S. cats are overweight, and only twenty eight percent of cat parents recognize the issue. Overweight pets are more prone to developing a number of diseases and health conditions and can have a shorter lifespan. Courtesy the IAMS™ brand.

The effort aims to prompt pet owners to work with their veterinarians to monitor their cats' weight and adopt preventive measures—such as balanced nutrition, regular activity, and routine wellness checks—to support long-term health.
