Industry collab bolsters access to veterinary behaviorists

The new partnership provides clinics with access to board-certified veterinary behaviorists free of charge, helping expand the availability of behavioral care while keeping general practitioners central to treatment

Purina Pro Plan Veterinary has entered a new partnership with Ease, an online platform that connects veterinary practices with board-certified veterinary behaviorists. The collaboration is part of the Pro Plan Veterinary Support Mission, an initiative aimed at addressing common challenges faced by clinicians.

Behavioral concerns remain one of the top issues reported to veterinary practices and a frequent factor in pet relinquishment, despite many conditions being treatable. In a statement by Purina, it is reported that more than 70 percent of dogs and up to half of cats exhibit stress- or anxiety-related behaviors. Many clinics struggle to access specialized support as only a few veterinarians in the U.S. board-certified in veterinary behaviorists.

Ease provides practices with no-cost consultations from Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. The new partnership aims to expand access while maintaining the central role of general practitioners in case management.

"Veterinarians face behavioral issues from clients every day, and it is incredibly hard on them when they cannot provide the support their patients need. That gap not only affects pets and their families but weighs heavily on the vets and techs who care so deeply," says Brandy Kuentzel, Ease co-founder and CEO. "This partnership helps close that gap by raising awareness of behavioral issues in practices and by increasing the ability to access expert behavioral care so every pet family can get specialist-level help without delay."

For Pro Plan Veterinary, the collaboration aligns with ongoing efforts to support clinicians. "Animal behavioral care is a specialty that many vet clinics sorely need and often cannot access," says Callie Harris, DVM, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary. "Through our partnership with Ease, we're helping to raise awareness and let clinics know that help from board-certified veterinary behaviorists exists so they can continue to focus on patient care and their own well-being."

Ease's platform allows veterinarians to submit behavior cases digitally, after which clients receive structured treatment plans, educational resources, and support, while the primary DVM manages medications and diagnostics with specialist guidance.
