The Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) and Mental Health America (MHA) have jointly launched the Pets and Mental Health Resource Center, an online platform providing evidence-based information on the role of companion animals in supporting emotional well-being. Developed in response to growing demand for resources, the center features educational materials on the science of the human-animal bond, animal-assisted interventions, and mental health guidance for pet owners. A survey of 4,000 MHA constituents found that most pet owners report positive mental health benefits from their animals—particularly among individuals living with mental or physical disabilities. Funded by the American Pet Products Association (APPA) and the World Pet Association (WPA), the initiative aims to offer accessible, expert-vetted content for both current and prospective pet owners. Veterinary professionals may find the resource useful for clients seeking information on the psychological benefits of pet ownership and responsible care. HABRI and MHA also hosted a webinar exploring research and best practices in animal-assisted mental health support. Additional educational content is expected to be added over time.
