UC Davis launches revamped portal to support data-driven animal health decisions

UC Davis has updated the Disease BioPortal, an online platform that helps veterinarians and livestock producers track disease trends, improve outbreak detection, and make data-driven animal health decisions.

The University of California (UC), Davis School of Veterinary Medicine has released a new version of the Disease BioPortal, an online platform designed to help veterinarians, producers, and diagnostic laboratories make faster, data-driven decisions for livestock health and biosecurity.

"The adoption by some of the top swine industry producers, large pharma companies and veterinary clinics demonstrates the trust and impact of this platform," says Dr. Beatriz Martínez-López, professor of epidemiology and disease modeling at UC Davis. "As we expand to additional sectors, our goal is to provide the same level of support and insight to help safeguard animal health, food systems, and ultimately public health."

The updated portal integrates diagnostic and field data, offering interactive maps, dashboards, predictive modeling, and whole-genome sequencing analysis. Users report it improves outbreak detection, tracks disease spread geographically, and informs timely management decisions. Disease BioPortal is also being adapted for poultry, cattle, and aquaculture, supporting a One Health approach that connects animal, human, and environmental health.

Basic access to Disease BioPortal is free, with additional subscription tiers available. More information is available on the Disease BioPortal homepage.
