The American Heartworm Society (AHS) has opened its 2025 Heartworm Incidence Survey and is encouraging veterinarians to submit clinic data to support updated national mapping of heartworm disease. The survey contributes to the AHS Heartworm Incidence Map, which has been produced every three years since 2001 and is used by veterinary professionals, animal welfare organizations, and media to track disease trends and geographic spread.

"Every veterinary practice that submits data helps the AHS to create a more comprehensive and useful map, which in turn helps veterinarians provide valuable information to clients on the threat of heartworms in their practice areas," says AHS President Marisa Ames, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology).

"Whether yours is a large or small practice—or whether you live in a warm- or cold-weather state—we urge you to submit your information," Ames added.

The online survey deadline is February 14, 2026. Results will be released in April during Heartworm Awareness Month.
