2025 X-ray contest results: Are you ready to see some crazy stuff?

They Ate What?! Check out this year’s contest winner, runners-up, and honorable mentions.

Announcing the 2025 X-ray Contest results!

It's that time of year again, when we receive stories about patients with peculiar tastes, owners in disbelief of their pets' appetite, and veterinary teams doing their best for their patients. All in a day's work, you might think—until you realize how outrageous these cases can get.

Metals, rocks, dirt, toys, hair—human or otherwise—the list never fails to surprise. Despite years of study, the "why" behind these curious cravings remains one of veterinary medicine's great mysteries. Is it boredom? Anxiety? Instinct? Whatever the cause, it keeps veterinarians on their toes and pet owners shaking their heads. What's consistent, however, is the dedication of veterinary teams who diagnose, treat, and sometimes even laugh through the most bizarre of situations.

Until we can truly solve the puzzle of "why they ate what," we invite you once again to marvel at these unforgettable X-rays and the remarkable stories behind them. More importantly, join us in celebrating the marvelous job veterinary teams do.
