Through Dec. 31, 2026, Blue Buffalo will match donations to the animal health research nonprofit Morris Animal Foundation, dollar for dollar, up to $200,000. The initiative, announced in light of National Pet Cancer Awareness Month, builds on the organizations’ nearly 20-year partnership supporting research into serious diseases affecting companion animals. Blue Buffalo is helping advance pet cancer research through its longstandingpartnership with Morris Animal Foundation, supporting scientific discoveries that could improve the lives of dogs and cats. Photo courtesy Blue Buffalo Research supported through the partnership includes the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, which follows thousands of dogs throughout their lives and has collected more than 650,000 biological samples and 75 million data points to help scientists investigate cancer and other health conditions. Additional projects include investigations into potential treatments for canine bone cancer and improved diagnostic approaches for feline inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal lymphoma. Researchers are also exploring the use of artificial intelligence to identify early signs of certain cancers, including lymphoma, by analyzing DNA fragments in blood samples. “Understanding cancer starts with understanding how it develops, and that requires studying animals over time,” says Dr. Kelly Diehl, senior director of scientific programs at Morris Animal Foundation. The initiative builds on more than $9 million in contributions from Blue Buffalo to support animal health research through the foundation. Pet owners and animal advocates can contribute through Morris Animal Foundation, with donations matched through the end of the year, subject to the $200,000 limit. The effort aims to expand funding for research that could improve understanding of cancer, support earlier detection and advance treatment options for dogs and cats.
