Ashworth College launches online vet tech program

Graduates will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree

Ashworth College recently launched its new online veterinary technician program. Graduates will receive their Associate of Applied Science degree along with the skills and experience needed for a career in animal health.

The program builds on its existing veterinary assisting program. It provides students with the latest information on laboratory procedures, surgical preparation and imaging. Courses include lessons on terminology, anatomy, physiology, behavior, restraint, nutrition and both large and small animal nursing procedures.

Students will also complete 270 hours of clinical experience with a local veterinary practice.

According to the college, this program is one most affordable veterinary technician programs in the U.S. and offers flexible payment options that fit a variety of financial situations.

"Veterinary technicians provide a range of health care for animals, under the supervision of a veterinarian. They provide nursing care or emergency first aid to injured animals, administer anesthesia, collect lab samples, perform lab tests, take and develop x-rays and administer medications and vaccines. The program provides the knowledge and background to develop these skills and succeed in the workplace," said Dr. Margi Sirois, Ashworth's director of Veterinary Technician Programs.
