The UC Davis William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VTMH) is offering a one-year Small Animal Rotating Internship for the 2027-28 academic year, marking the program’s return after more than 45 years. Five positions are available for veterinarians seeking broad clinical experience across small animal specialties. Bigstock Core rotations include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, emergency and critical care, cardiology, oncology, neurology, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, and clinical pathology. Elective opportunities may include exotics, orthopedic surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, primary care, pathology, radiation oncology, nutrition, and behavior, with potential research opportunities also available. According to UC Davis, interns will gain supervised, hands-on experience with emergency, first-opinion, referral, and specialty cases while developing clinical judgment, communication, and teaching skills. As competency increases, interns assume greater responsibility for patient care alongside specialists and residents. The program prepares graduates for residency training, specialty or referral practice, emergency medicine, academic careers, or general practice. Applications are open through January 4, 2027, through the Veterinary Intern and Resident Matching Program. For more information, visit the UC Davis Small Animal Rotating Internship webpage.
